Where the best view is the one you don’t see
Tourists crowd the railing,
cameras aimed at the famous skyline.
The bench points the other direction—
toward nothing postcard-worthy.
Just a wall with peeling paint,
a single tree,
the backs of people looking elsewhere.
Someone sits here.
An old man with a newspaper.
A woman tying her shoe.
A child counting pigeons.
The bench knows something the viewpoint doesn’t:
sometimes the best thing to watch
is people watching.
