The Roadside Shrine

A narrow alcove at the roadside
catches your eye before you even notice—
flowers bright and fresh, candles burning faintly.
Wax spills over the ledge,
cooling into layered folds like stone.

Cars pass.
Dust rises.
No one lingers here.
As if this were its meaning all along:
a brief pause,
and a whispered prayer,
to hold back the noise of the road.
